ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 released!

The final release of ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 (formerly code-named “Atlas”) is available now.  This new framework for creating more sophisticated user experiences on the Web was released as a free download. Major updates were also rolled out to the http://ajax.asp.net/ community site to coincide with this release.

The fully-supported AJAX framework integrates seamlessly with Visual Studio 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0. The ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit, a shared-source development project consisting of both Microsoft and non-Microsoft developers, will also continue to be supported.

But wait, there is more. In the coming weeks, Microsoft will be releasing the source code packages for the various ASP.NET AJAX components to assist developers with application debugging and interoperability.

The team is also already hard at work on the next ASP.NET AJAX release and customers can already start using many of these new features today with the ASP.NET AJAX Futures January CTP (also available for download on the ASP.NET AJAX site). Going forward, all of the ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 features will be integrated directly into the next release of ASP.NET shipping with VS “Orcas.” With that release there will also be improved tool support and even better integration with the latest .NET Framework technologies.
